Stronger Rural Healthcare in Zimba: A Story of Partnership and Delivery

In the heart of Zimba District, rural health volunteers are serving remote communities with renewed capacity, thanks to a partnership between the Ministry of Health and On Call Africa.

At a recent engagement on November 19, 69 bicycles, raincoats, gumboots, and a one-year supply of basic medical consumables were handed over to support these volunteers who often travel long distances to reach households.

This investment directly supports communities that rely on volunteer-led outreach for maternal care, health information, and basic services, especially where formal facilities are far away.

The initiative reflects broader national priorities. Under the 8th National Development Plan, Zambia continues to strengthen access to essential medicines and maternal health services.

The improvement in public facility medicine availability, from 35% to over 80% in less than two years, highlights the progress being made.

The New Dawn Administration, through the Presidential Delivery Unit, is committed to ensuring that these national priorities translate into real improvements for citizens.

The story from Zimba offers a clear example of how policy, partnership, and coordinated delivery come together to bring healthcare closer to communities.
