QUALITY HEALTHCARE
GOAL: Improve maternal mortality rates from 278 deaths per 100,000 births to 100 deaths per 100,000 by 2026
PROGRESS SO FAR:
According to the Demographic Health Survey, in 2024 there were 195 maternal deaths per 100,000 live births - a 29.9% reduction on the previous year.
However, routine surveillance data from health facilities puts this figure at just 120. The best performing provinces are Central (93 deaths/100k), Eastern (74 deaths/100k), and Southern (97 deaths/100k).
To support mothers in childbirth, national blood collection has increased to 190,479 litres - up from 130,661 litres in 2023.
